Uganda and the Republic of Korea have agreed to hold an investment meeting in early 2026, aimed at expanding trade, technology transfer, and investment between the two countries.

The announcement followed a bilateral meeting between Bagiire Vincent Waiswa, Permanent Secretary of Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Gi-Hyun Kim, Vice President of the International Cooperation Group of the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), held on November 3, 2025, at the Trade Tower Building in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

Bagiire commended the warm and long-standing relations between Uganda and South Korea, noting that the partnership continues to offer vast opportunities for economic growth. He emphasized Uganda’s commitment to attracting Korean investment in the Agro-industrialization, Tourism, Mineral Development, and Science, Technology, and Innovation (ATMS) sectors.

“Our focus is on technology transfer and investment promotion from Korea to Uganda, especially in areas that can accelerate industrial growth and create employment,” Bagiire said.

Gi-Hyun Kim welcomed Uganda’s proposal for the investment meeting and confirmed that KITA would work closely with Ugandan authorities to ensure a successful event.

“We look forward to collaborating with Uganda to organize a productive investment forum that will connect our business communities,” Kim stated.

KITA officials encouraged Ugandan enterprises to begin preparing for the engagement by researching the Korean market and identifying key areas for collaboration. They also invited the Government of Uganda to establish a resident embassy in Seoul, noting that such a presence would inspire greater confidence among Korean investors.

Uganda was represented at the meeting by Tophace Kaahwa, Uganda’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (non-resident), Nurh Byarufu, Minister-Counsellor, and Evelyn Ngalonsa, Counsellor.

The 2026 Uganda, Korea Investment Meeting is expected to provide a platform for both nations to explore joint ventures, strengthen bilateral trade, and enhance cooperation in innovation and industrial development.
