The Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has responded to Manjasi High School’s call for support in a bid to revamp the former academic and sports giant of Uganda's far-east.
The School which is now among the nation's worst-performing schools is located a few kilometers from Tororo town on the Malaba-Jinja highway.
The Old Students of the school organized a car wash in which they sought to raise money to help the school access clean water among other needs such as rehabilitating old buildings.
Subsequently, Gen Kainerugaba who has in the recent past supported related causes contributed Shs5,000,000 which was delivered by Lt Col McDans Kamugira, the in-charge, civil-military cooperation in the General’s office.
The cash contribution was received by Mr. Charles Etukuri, an Old Boy of the school who currently works with the New Vision newspaper, as a senior reporter.
The current headteacher, Thomas Wamundu, told New Vision in an interview recently that the school was established in 1956 by Mathers, the Archdeacon of the Upper Nile Province.
According to the Old Boys who recently visited the school on a fact-finding mission, most of the school buildings are dilapidated, while others have been worn out by years of neglect.
At the car wash held at Panamera Bar in Naguru, they hoped to collect Shs40,000 from every car owner.
Therefore, Gen Kainerugaba’s contribution will go a long way in ensuring the Old Boys of the School meet their goals of giving one of the oldest schools in the country a facelift and subsequently encourage parents to send their children to the school in a bid to help it reclaim its former glory.
