Ugandan students are among those set to benefit from Algeria’s scholarship program, which aims to provide opportunities for 210 students from across Africa in 2025.
Mourad Amokrane, Algeria's Ambassador to Uganda, shared that the program reflects Algeria’s commitment to educational exchange and empowering African youth. He made this announcement during a bilateral meeting with Oryem Henry Okello, Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The two officials engaged in constructive discussions ahead of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX), a key platform for African development that has brought together African leaders and development partners since its inception in 1993. TICAD IX is scheduled for August 20-22 in Yokohama, Japan.
The meeting focused on exploring collaborative opportunities to drive Africa’s growth and development, highlighting the spirit of Pan-Africanism and brotherhood. Minister Okello stressed Uganda's vital role in this continental effort, underlining that education is fundamental to sustainable development across all sectors.
Ambassador Amokrane expressed Algeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, specifically in agriculture, with reference to Uganda’s milk and coffee industries. Both officials reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation and to actively participating in TICAD IX.
In closing, Minister Okello thanked Ambassador Amokrane for the productive discussions and reiterated the strong friendship and solidarity between Uganda and Algeria.
