More than 1.4 million candidates have been registered to sit Uganda’s 2025 national examinations—the highest number ever, reflecting growing education access.
The Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) confirmed that 1,415,857 learners will take part in the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) this year. This represents a 6.8 percent rise from the 1,319,139 candidates registered in 2024.
Uneb spokesperson Jennifer Kalule Musamba announced the official close of registration on Wednesday, July 31, 2025. She directed all examination centres to display candidate registers in easily accessible areas within schools to enable learners and parents to verify the submitted information.
Kalule emphasized the importance of the verification process and said Uneb would soon release the official dates for it. “This is a critical step to ensure that all candidates are correctly registered,” she stated.
To improve accessibility and ensure transparency, Uneb is introducing a new SMS-based system that will allow students and guardians to confirm registration status and verify key bio-data, including name spellings and dates of birth, using their mobile phones.
Kalule clarified that post-registration corrections will only be permitted for adjusting bio-data based on information provided during the registration period.
