Uganda’s total COVID-19 cases have clocked 100 as two more were confirmed on Wednesday.

In a tweet, Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng says the cases were got out of 3,071samples from truck drivers. The patients include an Eritrean and Kenyan truck driver that arrived in the country from Kenya via Malaba border point.

On Monday Uganda registered eight new cases, the highest number ever registered at ago since the outbreak. Six of the cases were truck drivers from Kenya and two community members.

President Yoweri Museveni partially eased the lockdown on Monday evening, listing thirteen key policy directives for a restricted opening up of Uganda’s economy which was placed under lockdown in order to fight the spread of coronavirus since early March.

The partial opening saw the president allowing some sectors of the economy to continue operating while others were also given a green light to start operations with Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs).

Some of the SoPs are; observing social distancing guidelines and wearing face masks while in public.

Justifying the partial opening up, the Museveni said that the virus has been studied for some time and the country's health workers can deal with it. “You can't fail to sleep for fear of dreaming a bad dream. We shall start slowly to open up but without undoing our previous achievements,” Mr Museveni said.
