Uganda has registered a record 94 new cases of coronavirus, the highest number the Ministry of Health has recorded in a single day since its outbreak in March.
This now brings the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Uganda to 1,750. In the same vein, the country has also registered 3 new deaths bringing the number of fatalities to 19.
According to the Ministry of health, the new fatalities are residents of Kampala; two males aged 45 and 31 years old and a 57 year old female who passed on while in admission at different private hospitals in Kampala. Out of the 94 new cases, 53 are alerts; 51 from Kampala, two from Buvuma and Wakiso.
“33 are contacts from previously confirmed cases, 21 from Kampala, 6 from Nakaseke, 3 from Wakiso, 2 from Adjumani and 1 from Koboko,” the statement from Ministry of Health reads. The rise of confirmed cases in Kampala has been largely attributed to the laxity especially in public transport to allow the special operating procedures.
As a result, Ministry of Health reminds the public including users of public transport to “wear face mask at all times, and wear it properly- ensure that the nose, mouth and chin are fully covered, practice good hand hygiene and maintain social distance whenever in public.”
