With more than 27000 cases of Covid-19 registered so far, Ugandans have been advised to cancel the traditional Christmas and end of year travels to villages.

According to the minister of ICT and National Guidance, "majority of the elderly people in the villages are already vulnerable".

She, therefore, called for a change in how we celebrate the festive season with those in the village.

"You can celebrate with them by calling and using the available mobile money options instead of risking yours and their health," Minister Judith Nabakooba said.

"The best way to share love this season is by everyone staying at home and following the guidelines against Covid-19.”

The minister urged Ugandans to focus on understanding their “complete medical status” instead of "traveling around visiting friends and relatives".

"Get to know your blood pressure situation including other conditions such as diabetes. Use this holiday to go for an HIV test and this call specifically goes out to the men," she said in a Sunday news release.

"Medical experts have always told us that men compared to women are always reluctant when it comes to doing medical checkups."

Uganda had of Sunday registered 221 deaths, 27532 cases and 9826 recoveries from the respiratory illness.
