The Government has today, Monday resumed the COVID-19 vaccination exercise.

This comes after Ministry of Health last week received 175,000 more doses to continue with the vaccination exercise which started in March. Government needs up to 45million doses to vaccinate a population of 22million Ugandans.

According to the Ministry of Health, from June 28 to July 2nd, they will only vaccinate health workers and persons due for the 2nd dose who have reached 12weeks (3months) from the time when the 1st dose was administered.

“Due to the current lockdown, the District Health Officers will ensure that all eligible persons are reached and vaccinated,” the statement reads.

Apparently, other vaccines are expected before the end of July 2021.

Uganda targets to vaccinate 49.6% of the population which is about 21,936,011 people in a phased manner. Each phase is planned to cover 20% of the population which is about 4,387,202 people. The eligible population lies in the range of 18years and above. Currently, over 800,000 Ugandans have at least received one dose.
