Uganda will receive 45 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines in the next two months, Dr. Ruth Aceng, the health minister, has said.

According to the minister, the vaccines will be purchased through the COVAX facility, the African Union, from manufacturers and some will be acquired from donors.

Dr. Aceng revealed this past Friday that Uganda is expecting 18 million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine at the beginning of October, 9 million doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine from the African Union next month and the Covax facility will donate 18 million doses to cover 9 million people.

“These developments align our pipeline expectations to cover the 22 million target population plus the additional population of children,” the minister said.

Uganda has already received a total of 2,024,280 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine and 300,000 doses of the Sinovac vaccine to support the mass COVID-19 vaccination exercise.

The government’s plan is to secure adequate vaccines for the target population of 22 million - 18 years and above.

As of August 20, a total of 1,267,951 doses had been administered in the East African country, according to the ministry of health.
