Residents of Ssembabule and Bukomansimbi districts have commended the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) for providing critical medical services that have saved many lives. The army’s medical team conducted major and minor surgeries, mobile clinics, and specialized treatments in the two districts.

Lt Col Dr. Joseph Mwesige, who led the medical team, said they performed 900 surgeries at Butenga Health Centre II and Lwebitakuli in Ssembabule, 700 in Ntusi, 500 at Kissa Hospital in Bukomansimbi, and 700 in Bigasa. Additionally, mobile clinics at Kagogo Health Centre II attended to over 800 patients.

Dr. Hellen Kasaija, an obstetrician-gynecologist from General Military Hospital Bombo, acknowledged the Joint Staff Medical Services for enabling them to carry out the life-saving initiative. She noted that the intervention had helped prevent maternal deaths and improved healthcare access for vulnerable communities.

The medical outreach also offered malaria testing, HIV counseling, dental care, and ear, nose, and throat (ENT) services. Residents expressed gratitude for the UPDF’s efforts, praising the team’s dedication and timely response to medical needs.
