The National Resistance Movement (NRM) caucus is set to meet on Friday to elect the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) representative.

The position fell vacant after the ruling Party lost their representative Mathias Kasamba who died in April this year after suffering a brain tumor.

In a communication made by the Government Chief Whip, Thomas Tayebwa, all NRM MPs are required to convene at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on Friday to elect EALA MP.
According to Tayebwa, the caucus meeting will also elect NRM Parliamentary Caucus Executive Members.

MPs who are expected to attend the Friday meeting were yesterday subjected to a COVID-19 test. The testing of MPs for COVID-19 continues up to today, Thursday at midday.

The EALA race to replace late Kasamba had attracted over 20 candidates. However, NRM CEC sieved the candidates and approved only 5.
These include; Godfrey Kiwanda Ssubi, former Minister of State for Tourism, James Kakooza, former MP Kabula County, Mawuye Lule, former MP Kalungu East County, Nakato Kyabanji, former Gomba Woman MP and Abas Mutumba, former political assistant to the late Kasamba.
