The National Information Technology Authority of Uganda (NITA-U) has further slashed the price of internet to Government institutions.
According to the Minister of ICT, Chris Baryomunsi, NITA-U has reduced the cost of internet from $70 to $35 per Mbps per month.
"With all the key achievements undertaken by Government under NITA-U, I am delighted to announce that effective today, 1st, August 2023, the Price of Internet has been reduced from $70 to $35 per Mbps per month,” Baryomunsi said.
This price reduction means Government offices and institutions connected to the NBI will consume internet at the lowest price in the market.
"This landmark achievement solidifies government's position as the undisputed market leader in setting Internet prices,"Baryomunsi said during a press conference at Media Centre on Tuesday.
"With this bold move, NITA-U will drive substantial savings on the government communication budget, catalyze the adoption of E-Government Services, and deepen Digitization."
Dr. Hatwib Mugasa, the ED, NITA-U said he is glad that the authority's dream to lower the cost of internet has come to reality.
"At NITA-U, we have been working hard to lower the cost of internet bandwidth in Uganda especially for government institutions since they provide onward services to ordinary citizens and the private sector. We are happy that we have maintained our long term plans to lower the bandwidth costs," Dr. Mugasa said.
