President Yoweri Museveni who is also the commander in chief of the armed forces has made a mini-reshuffle in the security forces, appointing senior UPDF officers to key positions in the Uganda Police Force.
Col Sserunjoji Ddamulira is one of the officers appointed, having been nominated as the director of crime intelligence in the Uganda Police. The senior army officer has been serving as the deputy director in charge of counter-terrorism at the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI).
The President has also appointed Brigadier Godfrey Golooba as the police director of human resource and training while Col Jesse Kamunanwire will head administration.
Meanwhile, Brig. Jackson Bakashumba has been appointed police chief of staff.
The UPDF Spokesperson, Brig Richard Karemire congratulated the officers who have been given new assignments in the sister security agency.
"Congratulations to the UPDF General and Senior officers seconded and appointed to various positions in the Uganda Police Force," Brig Karemire said on Twitter.
The changes made by the president come at a time the country especially in the urban centers is experiencing some cases of armed robbery including recent cases in which boda-boda riders and mobile money operators have lost their lives at the hands of ruthless murderers.
Cases like the one in which armed robbers attacked workers at Cheap hardware in Nansana could have also informed the President's decisions.
The newly appointed UPDF officers will join their colleague, Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi who is the Deputy Inspector General of Police. The DIGP served SFC commander and Military police commander among other duties before joining the law and order agency.
