As the coronavirus crisis continues to shake the world, with more than 4,000 people dead, Uganda has intensified measures to prevent the virus from entering its borders.
Since the novel coronavirus first emerged in late December 2019, more than 115,124 cases have been recorded in 105 countries and territories, killing 4,067 people, according to an AFP tally compiled at around 1200 GMT on Tuesday based on official sources.
Tanzania is the latest East African country to confirm its first case of Covid-19 in the country. This is after Kenya and Rwanda.
The Tanzanian Health ministry said the 46-year-old woman returned from Belgium on Sunday aboard a RwandAir plane.
This comes after Rwanda reported that a Ugandan who traveled from the UK on Sunday has tested positive for the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Rwandan Ministry of health reported on Sunday that four more people had tested positive, including the Ugandan who arrived from London on the same day.
The other three cases are all of Rwandans who include one who traveled from South Sudan, another from Fiji via the US and Qatar while the third has no travel record.
In Kenya, the government unveiled a series of strict measures to curb coronavirus on Sunday, blocking entry to the country to all except citizens and residents and shutting schools as the number of confirmed cases rose to three.
