There is growing concern among Ugandans after the Ministry of Health announced the biggest single-day jump in coronavirus cases since the outbreak of the deadly disease in Uganda.
More concerning is that all the 13 new cases of COVID-19 are all cargo transporters.
However, the good news is that all the 740 samples taken from the community tested negative for COVID-19.
The new numbers were confirmed after clinical tests at the Uganda Virus Research Centre in Entebbe.
This brings the number of confirmed cases in Uganda to 114.
The is the second time Uganda has registered a double-figure in a single day since the outbreak. The other double-digit jump happened last month when eleven truck drivers tested positive.
“The total number of tests done today is 3,161 at Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI). The total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases is now 114,” the Ministry of Health stated on Friday.
According to the statement, the confirmed new cases include a 23-year-old Kenyan male who arrived from Kenya via Malaba border point, 34-year-old Ugandan male who arrived from Kenya via Malaba border point, 46-year-old Tanzanian male who arrived from Kenya via Malaba border point and 42-year-old Ugandan male who arrived from Kenya via Malaba border point.
Others are 26-year-old Kenyan male who arrived from Kenya via Malaba border point, 38-year-old Kenyan male who arrived from Kenya via Malaba border point, 30-year-old Uganda male who arrived from Tanzania via Mutukula border point and 56-year-old Kenyan male who arrived from Kenya via Malaba border point.
Also, 35-year-old Kenyan male who arrived from Kenya via Malaba border point, 30-year-old Kenyan male who arrived from Kenya via Malaba border point, 27-year-old Tanzanian male who arrived from Tanzania via Mutukula border point, 44-year-old Kenyan male who arrived from Kenya via Malaba border point and then 32-year-old of Ugandan male who arrived from Kenya via Malaba border point.
As of today, Uganda has 55 recoveries and no deaths, 861 individuals discharged from institutional quarantine, and 47,620 individuals have been tested.
