Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) says it's a public right for a Ugandan to access academic documents, citing the Access to Information Act, 2005.

This was revealed in a statement released by the UNEB Executive Secretary Dan Odongo, who said people have the right to access academic information of those participating in the general elections.

"The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) informs the public that in line with the Access to Information Act, 2005 and the regulations thereunder, and the UNEB Act, Cap 137, accessing academic documents of candidates for authentication is possible," Odongo said.

"Every citizen has a right of access to information and records in the possession of the State or any public body, except where the release of the information is likely to prejudice the security or sovereignty of the State or interfere with the right to the privacy of any other person," reads part of the Act.

According to the secretary, the information is paid for and applications can be done online.

"Where an applicant/requestor requires authentication of academic documents, UNEB shall issue verification letters upon payment of verification fees," he said, adding that the application can be done online using this link.

Payment can be made either to the bank or via mobile money services using the code provided, says Odongo.

"Where the application is for any other information or records, the applicant shall be availed application forms at UNEB and the fee applicable shall be in accordance with the charges under the Access to Information Act, 2005," he concluded.
