COVID-19: Kyambogo University Students to Carry own Masks, Sanitizers

Kyambogo University final year students will have to carry their own facemasks and sanitizers as the University prepares to reopen on 17th October 2020.

Kyambogo University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eli Katunguka said that the University will not provide students with facemasks or sanitizers. Katunguka was addressing the press at the University, following a pronouncement by President Museveni to reopen education institutions.

“Students should carry their own sanitizers and masks since there will be no any other allowance from government students to cater for requirements like procuring masks and sanitizers for students,” Katunguka said. Currently, Kyambogo University has 11,943 final students, with teaching set to commence on October 19th and end on November 13th 2020, while exams will begin on November 16th and end on November 29th.

Detailing some of the measures put in place to contain the deadly disease, the Kyambogo University Vice Chancellor revealed that the University’s halls of residence will be fumigated and halls will be filled to half capacity.

“All students' property will be disinfected before accessing halls of residence at all halls of residence there will be hand washing facilities,” he said.

The University management has also suspended all team sports during this session but individual physical exercises for fitness purposes will be allowed but recognizing recommended social distancing practices. Katunguka also added that the University medical center has also put in place protocols for referral of suspected COVID 19 cases assisted by the 24 hour ambulances services and emergency numbers will be displayed on all notice boards for quick action.

He also warned students, parents and guardians that no student will be allowed into examination room unless they have paid all fees required.
