Massive Staff Exodus Rocks NITA-U as Two Top Bosses Resign in Space of 2 Months

In the space of 2 months, at least two top employees at National Information Technology Authority Uganda (NITA-U) have quit.

It all started when Peter Kahiigi, the director of eGovernment services at NITA-U announced his resignation in September this year after 10years of service. Kahiigi whom many had tipped to become the next ED considering his seniority and expertise, joined the University of Oxford in the U.K. where he has been hired as an expert at the Global Centre for Cyber Security.

Kahiigi’s exit came a month after Dr Hatwib Mugasa was appointed NITA-U ED following the retirement of James Saaka who had successfully served his 10 year tenure. The latest top employee to quit is the senior Marketing and Communications Officer, Steven Kirenga. Kirenga last week announced that he was quitting the Authority having served for only 3 years.

“Today will be my last day at @NITAUganda1. The past 3 years have been nothing short of phenomenal, roller-coaster even. I have enjoyed every bit of it. Gratitude to @NITAUgandaED + EXCO + BOD. #DigitizeUG has been emotional, long may it live,” Kirenga tweeted last Thursday.

It remains unclear if the change of top leadership has anything to do with the mass staff exodus.
