Capt Mike Mukula, the NRM Vice chairperson for Eastern region has said that Uganda was a failed state until President Yoweri Museveni took over power in 1986.

Mukula told the people of Sigulu Island in Namayingo District to continue overwhelmingly voting for President Museveni because there is no other experienced president than him in the entire East Africa. He said that Museveni brought long-lasting peace which had never existed in the times of his predecessors including Milton Obote, Idd Amin and others. He boasted how Uganda now exports peace to the neighboring countries, adding that peace and security is the biggest pillar of economic development.

"President Museveni is providing African solutions to the African problems. Museveni has never gone on holiday, he works day and night to bring peace. The biggest pillar of development is peace and security. You can't build a road in the middle of a war," Mukula said.

"Since Independence, the likes of Obote, Amin, Binaisa all failed this country. It was until Museveni came in 1986."

Capt Mike Mukula also weighed in on the credentials of other presidential candidates saying they are not as experienced as President Museveni saying they need vast "experience" to govern this country. He likened the credentials of other candidates to a student pilot who is blindly entrusted with an Airbus plane, saying it will be just a matter of time that the plane will crash.

The people of Sigulu decried unfulfilled presidential Pledges like Girls boarding school in Matolo for affirmative action. They also asked for a technical school, subsidization of fishing gears and life jackets and lack of adequate health equipment.

Mukula promised to work with government to ensure that Sigulu gets another ferry and ensure that Sigulu health III which he constructed during his times as a minister is upgraded to a fully equipped health centre to IV. Mukula today, started his campaigns for President Museveni in Busoga subregion. On Sunday, he is expected to return to Buyende district.
