Barbie Itungo Kyagulanyi was supposed to travel to America with her children but was blocked by NUP elders who pressured Bobi Wine to keep her wife in the country.

According to sources within the National Unity Platform led by Bobi Wine, Ms Itungo was even asked to deposit her passport as an assurance that she would not leave the country. The mistrust stems from the fact that Barbie would freely give NUP secrets to the government.

“For the children, we have no problem with them flying out but Barbie has a lot of money and she wanted to go with it yet the party doesn’t even have enough money for party activities,” a source told the Kampala Post.

This website exclusively reported that Bobi Wine’s family was set to flee the country ahead of the January 14 election. Indeed, Bobi Wine’s children departed Entebbe airport Wednesday evening aboard Qatar airways.

Apart from the money matters, sources told this website that some elders with the party especially in Buganda do not trust Barbie and that could have been one of the reasons for sabotaging her trip.

“They have never trusted her because she hails from western Uganda and there is a strong belief that she has been spying for the government,” the source said, adding that “the elders demanded that she stays in the country as a sign of commitment to NUP.

Meanwhile, several Ugandans have questioned Bobi Wine’s motive for sending his children to America with some accusing him of plotting violence.

Veteran journalist and businessman Andrew Mwenda reminded Bobi Wine of his words from two years back while appearing on a TV show.

“In a debate on @nbstv in 2018, @HEBobiwine said if there was chaos in Uganda, I would be the first to run abroad. Last night he evacuated his family to USA leaving millions of his supporters in the very chaos he is plotting with his hooligans! My family and I are staying here!” said veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda in a tweet.

The family including Bobi Wine's four children traveled with their aunt, Kyomuhimbo Asiimwe Jolly and their uncle, Rubahamya Baron. Kyomuhimbo and Ruhahamya are Barbie's siblings.

The children are; Kyagulanyi Sekayi Solomon Kampala, Mbogo Shadrack, Namagembe Shalom and Suubi Shine Nakayi.

Bobi Wine's family is headed to the address: 1502 Enclave PKY APT 713 Houston Texas 77077 and Fort Bliss, Texas-US Army Garrison 1741 Marshall Road. It is said that the family will be staying with one of Barbie's sisters who is in the army in Texas.
