Several roads leading to Parliament will not be accessible to the public as MPs’ swearing-in ceremony commences Monday, May 17, 2021.

About 130 MPs-elect are expected to be sworn on Monday in the alphabet order of their names in a ceremony that will end on Thursday.

According to the new traffic guidelines issued by SSP Norman Musinga, Kampala Metropolitan Traffic commander, there will be traffic diversions in areas surrounding Parliament such as Parliamentary Avenue which will be cut off at Kimathi Avenue, King George VI Street, Siadi Barrie and UBC roundabout.

“Members of Parliament elect will access Parliament via King George VI Street and be dropped off at the Main Gate; motor vehicles proceed to the designated parking at National Theatre,” Musinga says in a press statement.

Police has advised motorists unrelated to the swearing-in ceremony to avoid Kimathi Avenue, Parliamentary Avenue, Siadi Barrie and Dewinton Road.

Parking along the road or near Parliament has also been prohibited with Musinga saying that whoever violates the new guideline will have their motor vehicle towed to CPS Kampala at the owner’s cost.
