President Yoweri Museveni warned terrorist groups that have recently taken aim at Uganda's capital Kampala that the security agencies will be logistically reinforced to counter them.
The president, who told counter-terrorism units to use all means available to disarm terrorists, cited a recent incident where police gunned down a man suspected to have been involved in the attempt at the life of Works and Transport Minister Gen Katumba Wamala.
"And terrorists, I am warning you, don’t run. If we come, surrender! If you try to run, you are dead. You have been looking for trouble but now you are going to get it. You have been killing our people, but now you are going to die. Your only way out is to surrender," Museveni said, according to Nrm.ug.
On July 1, Hussein Wahab Lubwama, who is believed to have shot and killed Gen Katumba's daughter, Brenda Nanyonjo, was killed as he tried to resist arrest. He had grabbed a gun from a police officer.
Police has in total arrested seven suspects who are currently remanded to Kitalya government prison.
They are Muhammad Kagugube, Siriman Kisambira, Abudallah-Aziz Ramadhan Dunku, Kamada Walusimbi, Habib Ramadhan Marjan, Sheikhs; Yasin Nyanzi and Hussein Serubula.
The attack on the former army chief came on the back of other murders by shooting that targeted prominent Ugandans, including a member of parliament, a police chief and high-ranking judicial officer.
These terrorist groups have also carried out other criminal activities, including robberies and kidnappings.
In a televised address Thursday, the president also tasked the security agencies to investigate the social media ring that’s spreading false information to the extent of recently announcing him dead.
