The President of Italy, H.E Sergio Mattarella has congratulated his Ugandan counterpart, Gen Yoweri Museveni ahead of the 59th Independence Day Anniversary due to be celebrated on Saturday the 9th October 2021.

Uganda will celebrate its 59th Independence Anniversary under the theme “Celebrating our 59th Independence Day as we secure our future through National mindset Change”.

The scientific celebration will be held at Kololo ceremonial Grounds.

In a diplomatic note delivered by the Italian Ambassador to Uganda, H.E Sergio Mattarella notes that relations between Uganda and Italy are characterized by bonds of friendship that should continue to be nurtured.

"The recurrence of the national day celebration offers me the delightful opportunity to bring you sincere wishes for the prosperous future of the Republic of Uganda. Our countries are bound by historical ties of friendship and fruitful dialogue on issues of common interest, starting with the stabilization of the Horn of Africa and the region of the Great Lakes," the Italian President says in his message to Mr. Museveni.

In his own capacity, the Italian ambassador to Uganda HE Massimiliano Mazzanti also expressed his best wishes to the President and the people of Uganda ahead of the Independence Day Anniversary.

Uganda and Italy have enjoyed close historical ties especially in the fields of trade, tourism, health, education, and defense cooperation. Some of the leading hospitals and educational institutions in the country were founded by Italian missionaries, and trade and business between the two countries have been growing steadily over recent decades.
