Members of Parliament are calling for a debate on corruption in the House, following growing public discontent and allegations of embezzlement and lavish spending by parliamentary leaders.

"We are entrusted by the people to address their concerns, but we didn't have the answers," said Erute South MP Jonathan Odur, urging parliamentary leaders to allow the debate.

"The Speaker, the deputy, the four commissioners, first, before we go outside, there are questions that have been asked - by virtue of the political offices that we hold, Ugandans want answers."

Aringa South MP Alion Odria also expressed frustration, demanding that parliamentary leaders address corruption accusations.

"You, as the Speaker, as the chair, what have you done to clean our image, which has been painted bad? You, yourself and Rt. Hon. Anita Among, we asked for space on the order paper to debate this issue, but two months down the road (nothing has been done), we want this matter to be debated. Why are you running away from that debate?" Odria asked.

Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa who chaired the Tuesday session promised that the debate would happen soon, responding to the growing pressure from MPs and the public. Several other MPs, including Godfrey Macho and Muhammed Nsereko, also emphasized the need for a debate to tackle corruption and restore public trust.
