The Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) has issued a statement countering what it describes as "malicious misinformation" surrounding Operation Harmony, an ongoing security operation in Northern Uganda. The UPDF insists the mission is proceeding smoothly and in full compliance with the law.

Operation Harmony aims to address illegal cattle grazing, land disputes, and environmental degradation caused by unauthorized pastoralists (primarily the Balaalo community) in the Acholi and Lango sub-regions.

In an official statement, Maj Gen Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF's Director of Defence Public Information, categorically denied claims circulating on social media and in some sections of the press alleging misconduct by security personnel.

Maj Gen Kulayigye clarified that no personnel involved in the operation have been detained, contrary to rumors. He emphasized that all troops are executing their duties impartially and professionally, with strict adherence to legal and human rights standards. The UPDF accused unnamed groups of spreading false narratives to incite ethnic tensions, intimidate security forces, and mislead the public.

The operation follows Presidential Executive Orders No. 2 and 3 (2025), which mandate the removal of illegal occupants from contested lands. The UPDF outlined its structured approach: evictions are being conducted peacefully in coordination with local leaders, district committees, and magistrates to ensure due process.

The UPDF urged citizens to disregard unverified reports and rely only on official communications from recognized security channels.

"Operation Harmony will not be derailed by propaganda. Our forces remain disciplined, transparent, and fully committed to the rule of law," Kulayigye affirmed.
