The Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations and Commander Land Forces Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has handed over the office of Commander Special Forces Command to Brig Peter Candia who will serve in acting capacity as appointed by the Commander-in-Chief.
Brig Candia was absent due to illness but was represented by his deputy, Brig Felix Busizoori. The former Director of Personnel and Administration takes over from Brig Candia who initially deputized Gen Kainerugaba.
The Handover/Takeover ceremony at the SFC Headquarters in Entebbe was presided over by the new Chief of Defense Forces Gen Wilson Mbadi who assumed his new role on Tuesday.
Gen Kainerugaba leaves SFC with a remarkable record of improving his soldiers’ welfare through a number of projects, including medical facilities, accommodation, training, and the new state-of-the-art Headquarters.
As a result of his efforts, the SFC commando battalion grew to a brigade following the training and pass-out of over 1,000 commandos.
Gen Kainerugaba told the new SFC leadership to uphold the culture of saving and proper utilization of resources as well as continued execution of their duties with distinction.
Gen Kainerugaba said that when he took over seven months ago, there were no sufficient funds to run activities.
He however noted that the accounts of SFC have since recovered, urging his predecessor to guard against wastage of resources.
Meanwhile, Gen Mbadi thanked the outgoing SFC commander for ensuring the expansion of the elite force and grooming leaders who have taken over from him.
The CDF urged Gen Kainerugaba to export the energy he has exhibited during his time as commander SFC to his new appointment as the Land Forces Commander.
