Senior officers from the Uganda Prisons Service have undertaken a study tour of some government institutions as part of the Prisons Intermediate Command and Staff Course. According to the Uganda Prisons Service, the visit aimed to broaden the officers' expertise in healthcare, agriculture, and strategic planning.

The officers began their tour at Mulago National Referral Hospital, where they studied the hospital’s healthcare services, emergency response systems, and specialized departments.

Uganda Prisons Service noted that the knowledge gained would enhance the management of healthcare services within correctional facilities.

Later, the officers visited the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) at Namulonge, where they toured the National Livestock Resources Research Institute (NaLIRRI) and the National Crops Resources Research Institute (NaCRRI).

The Uganda Prisons Service stated that the officers learned about livestock management, crop development, and modern farming techniques.

The training is designed to equip prison officers with skills to implement sustainable agricultural programs in correctional facilities, promoting food security and vocational training for inmates.

Uganda Prisons Service emphasized that by engaging with experts in different fields, the officers are expected to develop innovative solutions to improve prison management and service delivery.
