Ugandans have taken to social media to mourn the passing of former Assistant Commissioner of Police Sam Omara who died aged 65. He passed away on April 28 at Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for prostate cancer and kidney failure.
I am sorry for the loss of Assistant Commissioner of Police(ACP) retired Sam. Those who worked with him remember him as a selfless, patriotic and hard working officer. He loved his family too & talked fondly about cultural interconnectivity with pride. Thank you Hon for offering…

Omara, who underwent dialysis last year, served in key positions during his time in the Uganda Police Force, including as Kampala North Police Operations Commander. His leadership during the 2011 “walk-to-work” protests led by Dr Kizza Besigye brought him to the limelight.
After retiring from the police, Omara joined the private security sector, becoming Deputy CEO of Arrow Security Services, a firm owned by former minister Capt Mike Mukula.
Taking to X, Capt Mukula wrote: "Arrow security systems LTD with deep sorrow announce the death of our Director Operations and deputy CEO SAM OMALLA (RIP) and retired at the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP). He has just passed on in mulago hospital at 7 am after a long struggle with cancer."
Omara had been unwell for some time. In November 2024, the Director of Police Health Services, AIGP Dr Byaruhanga Moses, visited him at Mulago Hospital.
