Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has registered a notable rise in the number of learners set to sit for the 2025 national examinations, with figures showing a 7.31% increase compared to last year.
According to UNEB, provisional registration data indicates that 1,412,248 candidates have been listed across all three levels: Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).
This marks a jump from last year’s total of 1,308,998 candidates, reflecting an additional 103,250 learners. Government sponsorship remains a key driver of this growth, with 719,721 candidates, constituting 51% of the total, registered under Universal Primary Education (UPE), Universal Secondary Education (USE), and the Uganda Post O’Level Education and Training Program (UPOLET).
Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, the Principal Public Relations Officer at UNEB, urged Heads of Centres to complete the registration of all eligible candidates within the final July window.
“We encourage Heads of Centres to ensure that all prospective learners are registered so that no learner is left out,” said Kalule-Musamba. “Amendments can be made free of charge until the end of July and submitted via the portal.”
Registration beyond June attracts a surcharge, and for UCE candidates, schools have been reminded to compile Continuous Assessment scores for both S.3 and S.4 learners ahead of Term II submission deadlines.
The final registration figures will be confirmed after the late registration window closes at the end of July.
