The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) joined the Indian community in Jinja to celebrate India’s 79th Independence Day at the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) – Uganda Campus.
Air Commodore Kedar Thaakar, the Campus Director, reflected on the longstanding ties between Uganda and India, noting their shared colonial history, independence struggles, and common aspirations for growth.
He called for vigilance against modern threats such as terrorism, cyberattacks, and radicalisation, stressing that the NFSU campus in Uganda was designed to strengthen security and build capacity across Africa.
On behalf of the UPDF, Brig Gen Wyclif Keita, Joint Staff Training and Doctrine, reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to deepening cooperation with India. He said the NFSU campus in Jinja stands as a symbol of strong bilateral bonds and a platform for academic excellence and professional development.
“The establishment of this campus reflects India’s vision for a safer world,” Brig Gen Keita said.
The event attracted senior military and security officials, including Brig Gen Emmanuel Kanyesigye, Jinja Cantonment Commander; Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso, Chief of Staff URDCC; Brig Gen Elvis Byamukama, Deputy Commandant SCSC Kimaka; Brig Gen Peter Omola; and SSP Charles Nsaba, Jinja Regional Police Commander.
