Tanzania made a perfect start to their CHAN 2024 campaign with a confident 2–0 victory over Burkina Faso in the tournament opener played at a fully packed Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on August 2, 2025.

Spurred on by a vibrant home crowd, the Taifa Stars dominated from the onset. Their persistence paid off midway through the first half when Sulaiman Abdul converted a penalty following a handball by a Burkina Faso defender, giving the hosts a deserved lead before halftime.

Tanzania maintained control in the second half and doubled their advantage through Hussein M, who finished off a slick team move that showcased the side’s composure and attacking fluidity.

Burkina Faso attempted to fight back but found it difficult to penetrate Tanzania’s well-drilled defense. The Taifa Stars’ goalkeeper made crucial saves to keep a clean sheet and secure all three points.

The result puts Tanzania at the top of their group and signals a strong start to their journey in the tournament, which is being co-hosted across East Africa.

Tanzania will now prepare for their next group fixture with renewed confidence, while Burkina Faso will aim to bounce back quickly to stay in contention.
