Two people were on Tuesday arrested during what police have described as a minor protest by some supporters of jailed Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine).

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango, who did not readily identify the suspects said the duo has been detained at Central Police Station Kampala. “We are taking positive action against these unruly youths who have chosen to ignore the rule of law and instead engage in illegal activities,” he said.

A group of youth were dispersed by the police as they burnt tyres and blocked roads around Kisekka Market in protest of Bobi Wine’s imprisonment. The musician turned politician was on Monday remanded to Luzira by Buganda Road court. He is slated to reappear in court on Thursday May 2.

Bobi Wine was arrested on Monday after he led an illegal procession, while on his way to the Police CID headquarters, where he had been summoned to record a statement in regard to inciting violence and holding an illegal assembly. Meanwhile calm has now returned at Kisekka Market after police quelled the protest. “The situation is normal, police was alert,” Onyango said.
