President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has declared that sustainable peace in Sudan can only be achieved through dialogue rather than military force.
The President made the remarks on Friday during a diplomatic meeting at State House Entebbe. He hosted H.E. Pekka Haavisto, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Sudan.
The two leaders discussed the ongoing conflict in Sudan and its security implications for the wider region.
During the deliberations, Museveni traced the root causes of instability across various African states. He reiterated that many regional crises stem directly from fundamental ideological mistakes.
The President also blamed these conflicts on the failure of leadership to respect the identities of people within multinational states.
Following the meeting, Museveni reaffirmed Uganda's pan-African stance on managing the humanitarian fallout of the conflict.
He explicitly committed to keeping Uganda's borders open to those fleeing the fighting.
"I also reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to hosting refugees, who are our people and continue to contribute to our country’s development," Museveni stated.
The diplomatic engagement comes amid ongoing international efforts to broker a ceasefire between the warring factions in Khartoum.
