Police teams have embarked on a rigorous community policing campaign in Kampala and Wakiso districts as D/IGP’s recently rolled out security plan takes shape.

Deputy IGP Major Gen. Sabiiti Muzeyi about two weeks ago announced a revised security plan to defeat violent criminal gangs terrorizing residents in Kampala and the surrounding areas. The revised security plan followed the President’s directive to General Sabiiti in which he was given 48 hours to avail a detailed plan to the Commander-in-Chief on how he intends to crash the criminals.

In the revised security plan the Deputy IGP said among other measures, police would focus on enhanced communication with the public. He revealed that particular security zones would be created and police contacts given to residents for easy communication. The Deputy IGP also gave out a general Watsapp number for residents with information on crime to anonymously report to police.

Counter telephone contacts for police stations and posts within Kampala Metropolitan Area have also been listed down and publicized for residents to easily reach out to the police. Now in continued effort to implement the Deputy IGP’s revised security plan, a team from the Directorate of Chief Political Commissariat, headed by the head of Political Education, SSP Christopher Kwerit, together with the DPC Jinja Road SP Robert Katuramu have embarked on a trail to meet and sensitize residents.

On Tuesday the team met the community of Kitintale market and neighbouring areas. The team asked residents to ensure that they have the police counter telephone numbers, “which would help in easy and quick response in case of any emergencies.” They also called for opening up of village WhatsApp groups linked to the area police Officer in charge. The village Chairman was also tasked to register and know all residents for easy identification of criminals. Earlier another team headed by ACP Anatoli Muletelwa met the community in Wakiso.
