The Security Inter-Agency Joint Task Force on Coronavirus on Monday picked up 23 male adult Ugandans for questioning after they were found congested in a small house in Wakiso district.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says the group was picked from Nkokonjeru, Nsangi. They are being detained at Nsangi Police post and are being questioned for breach of the Ministry of Health guidelines on social distancing as a measure to prevent spread of coronavirus.
“The assembly of twenty-three adult males with no known kinship linkages and their unusual home environment indicate that they could have been engaging in some criminal activities, a matter that Police is investigating,” Onyango said.
He added that the suspects will be produced in court tomorrow (Tuesday) on charges of: “Doing neglect act likely to spread infection of disease contrary to Section 171 of the Penal Code Act. Disobedience of lawful order. And, any other charges that may arise from investigations.”
“The Security Joint Task Force hereby re-echoes the directive of observing social distance and hence passes an early warning to all individuals and companies accommodating in school-like-dormitories and any type of dormitories to immediately disperse to avoid arrest and being charged,” Onyango warned.
The Task Force also reminded the management of factories and other companies to ensure the work environment in their institutions is in conformity with the safety directives issued by the President and the guidelines by the Ministry of Health.
