The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, has received the Education Policy Review Report, which outlines key findings and recommendations for a new Government White Paper on Education and Sports in Uganda.

Mrs. Museveni received the report during a special Ministry of Education and Sports Top Management meeting at State House. The report was presented by the Chairperson of the Education Policy Review Commission, Col. (Rtd.) Nuwe Amanya Mushega, and his team.

The report, themed Education for Values, Innovation and Transformation, is the result of three and a half years of research by the Commission, which was established under Legal Notice No. 5 of 2021 and launched in May 2021.

Mrs. Museveni emphasized that the report’s recommendations would provide the government with policy options to drive national transformation through the education and sports sector. She expressed gratitude to members of the public who participated in the review process and acknowledged the contributions of benchmarking countries, including Ethiopia, Finland, Kenya, Rwanda, South Korea, Tanzania, and Vietnam.

She also appreciated the Government and people of Finland, along with Finn Church Aid, for their support of the Commission’s work.

Amanya Mushega stated that the Commission identified several challenges in Uganda’s education system and proposed 284 recommendations to address them. “While access to education has significantly improved, the challenge remains in ensuring quality,” he noted.

He explained that the Commission’s overall policy direction aims to sustain access to education while enhancing its quality. The submitted report includes various attachments, such as stakeholder memoranda, findings from public hearings, nationwide consultation results, benchmarking studies, and an analysis of Uganda’s education performance against the 1992 White Paper.

The government is expected to review the recommendations as it works toward shaping the future of education and sports in Uganda.
