Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has once again blasted Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) officials for politicizing need to give a one month allowance to Abdu Katuntu, the Chairperson of the Committee of Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE).

Kadaga said that those who are criticizing the move are simply envious of what Katuntu and the current COSASE have achieved.

She was speaking while appearing on Namirembe FM, to update the nation on the work of the 10th Parliament.

“People are excited because this Committee has done a commendable job, it is visible and now, everyone wants it. Ssemujju [Nganda] was once a Chairperson of COSASE, did you ever hear about COSASE? Amuriat [Patrick] was also a Chairperson of COSASE, did you ever hear about it? It is only this COSASE that has been prominent, that is why people are excited, but the current team has to complete their probe, give us a report and we later put in place another team,” Kadaga said.

Last month, Kadaga wrote to the Leader of Opposition Betty Aol requesting her to extend the term of the current COSASE leadership up to February 20, 2019 to allow the committee wind up with the current probe on Bank of Uganda on the closure of 7 defunct banks including Crane Bank. This was upon the request of the committee to allow them conclude the probe that has reached a ‘critical stage.’

However, Kadaga’s decision met backlash from the top FDC leadership, but later agreed and settled for the extension up to February 20th.
