Alliance for National Transformation-Uganda national coordinator Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu is emphasizing need for leaders to remain focused on understanding and representing the people they serve.

Muntu made the observation on Wednesday after a tour of Lango sub region, during the political party’s ongoing nationwide leaders’ induction campaign. The campaign started in Bunyoro sub-region on Monday. Maj Gen Muntu notes, “Grassroots mobilization doesn't just build the party's base across the country, it also enables us to connect with the people and understand their needs.”

Muntu early this year founded the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) Uganda after quitting the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC, the party he headed before losing internal elections to current President Patrick Oboi Amuriat. His decision to quit FDC was because of what he described as irreconcilable differences in ideology.

Majority of the FDC party members, including founding President Kizza Besigye treasured defiance as opposed to Muntu’s belief in mobilization and building of party structures. Muntu has indeed carried on his wish for strong party structures and mobilization at the grass root, through the ongoing regional leaders’ induction campaign.

“The Alliance will remain focused on the kind of politics we would like to see in our country; where leaders are focused, not on the amount of power they can grab or hold onto, but on understanding, representing and serving our people,” he said, adding that the induction campaign aims at “equipping and enabling our sub-regional leaders to be at the frontline of the party's recruitment activities.”

“For any party to grow, we must be ready to put in the hard, often unseen work of building grass root structures. Like the bamboo tree, we must be ready to invest in our roots before we can sprout from the ground,” he emphized.
