President Yoweri Museveni has commended the Royal Milk Factory in Nalukolongo, Rubaga Division, Kampala District for its contributions to Uganda's dairy industry. During a visit to the factory, the President praised the factory’s founder, Omugurusi Hajji Kigoye of Masindi, for embracing milk production and expanding into pasteurized milk and yogurt products.
The president attributed this success to the strategic advice provided by the government and applauded Kigoye’s children for appreciating the family enterprise.
“We introduced milk production as an opportunity, and I am pleased that Omugurusi Kigoye and his family seized it. Their expansion into pasteurized milk and yogurt production is a testament to the importance of partnerships in business,” said President Museveni.
During his visit, Museveni pledged to support the factory’s request for a UHT (ultra-heat-treated) milk processing plant, but advised the management to first assess its economic feasibility given Uganda’s milk surplus. “While UHT milk is a viable product, powdered milk might be easier to transport and store. I encourage a thorough economic study to determine the most beneficial option,” he suggested.
The president's commitment to promoting local production has been met with praise from Ugandans. “Thank you, President Museveni, for your unwavering support to Uganda’s dairy farmers. Your initiatives have greatly improved the livelihoods of many families,” tweeted Sandra Mwesiga. Other users, like Kizito Alysha and Maridadi Kamagara, also expressed their appreciation for the president’s efforts to promote local industry and create jobs, emphasizing the peace and stability in Uganda that has enabled such investments.
"We must promote and support our own in business. Thank you mzee for encouraging us to invest at home," said Hon Dr Balaam Barugahara, the state minister for gender, labour, and social development in charge of children and youth affairs.
Museveni’s visit underscores his ongoing focus on economic development through local production and strategic partnerships in key sectors like dairy, which continue to contribute to Uganda's broader economic growth.
