Uganda Baati, through the Safal Uganda Baati Foundation, has rolled out the second phase of its Economic Empowerment Skilling Program in Tororo District. This initiative aims to address critical social challenges such as high youth unemployment and teenage pregnancies by equipping out-of-school youth with practical, marketable skills.
Tororo District, with a youthful population of nearly 373,317 individuals aged 15-30, has been hit hard by unemployment, which stands at 62%, and teenage pregnancies, at 29.5%, surpassing the national average of 25%.
The three-month-long program, launched this month, will reach over 260 young people aged 16-25, providing them with free training in employable skills. The initiative is designed to combat unemployment and empower youth to take control of their economic futures.
“This program goes beyond technical skills; it aims to nurture self-reliant young people who can contribute positively to society,” said George Arodi, Uganda Baati’s Business Head. The program offers four key courses: Backyard Gardening, Fundi Roofing, Liquid Detergent Making, and Hairdressing, along with life skills such as financial literacy, sexual health, branding, and business management.
As Uganda Baati marks its 60th anniversary, this initiative underscores the company’s commitment to empowering Uganda’s youth and fostering community development.
