Forty-three officers of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) have completed a five-day training in Military Internal Security Operations at the Legal Training Centre, Gadaffi Barracks in Jinja City.
Brig Gen William Bainomugisha, the Commandant of the Military Police Brigade, presided over the closing ceremony and emphasized the importance of integrating intelligence, legal, and investigative skills in security operations.
He urged the officers to embrace continuous training to enhance their knowledge, professionalism, and effectiveness in duty. “Loyalty, hard work, and good health are key to success in your service,” he advised.
Maj Wako Wambuzi, representing the Commandant of the Legal Training Centre, said the trainees were drawn from the Military Police, Legal Department, Special Investigations Branch, and Special Forces Command.
Mr. Tomboy, a representative from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), described the training as a milestone in the UPDF’s commitment to upholding human rights.
Senior Superintendent of Police Muzuira Andrew, speaking on behalf of the Kiira Regional Police Commander, highlighted the need for collaboration in security operations. He reminded the officers to treat citizens with respect and professionalism.
Top performers were recognized, including Maj Edward Kayiwa for leadership, Capt Ben Iranya as the most active participant, and Lt Gloria Nabagesera, awarded for discipline and as the best female participant.
The event was attended by senior UPDF and police officers, as well as representatives from the ICRC and the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy.
