A total of 118 soldiers from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 2 Division have completed an eight-week ideological orientation course aimed at strengthening discipline, unity, and civil-military relations.
The pass-out ceremony took place at the 2 Division Headquarters in Makenke, with Major General Paul Muhanguzi, the Division Commander, presiding over the event. The graduating class included 109 men and 9 women, forming the ninth intake of the programme.
The training focused on instilling political awareness, patriotism, and unit cohesion, which are central to the UPDF’s mission of maintaining a people-centered military force.
“The army is not just about combat readiness. Our political and ideological awareness is what makes us a people’s force. It helps us stay disciplined and builds stronger ties with the communities we serve,” said Maj Gen Muhanguzi.
He urged the soldiers to uphold the core values of the UPDF and conduct themselves with honour in their respective units.
Three trainees—Sgt Ngobi Gerald, WO1 Mutembuzi Erasto, and Pte Achom Sarah Lydia—were recognized as the top performers and received certificates and gifts for their excellence.
Senior officials who attended the ceremony included Deputy Division Commander Col James Kasule, 2 Division Political Commissar Lt Col Remmy Mutabazi, Assistant Superintendent of Police Innocent Yuma, Superintendent Obbo Franco, and Lt Col JKK Menya, the Commanding Officer of the 13 Artillery Battalion.
The ideological training is part of UPDF’s ongoing efforts to reinforce professionalism and build a military force that reflects the values of service, discipline, and commitment to the people of Uganda.
