President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on the people of Moyo District to focus on transforming government led development into tangible household wealth through active participation in income generating activities.
Addressing thousands of residents at Celecelea Playgrounds on Friday, the President said Uganda’s progress in infrastructure, roads, and electricity must now translate into improved livelihoods at the household level.
“When you return home in the evening, the poverty you left in the morning is still waiting for you. That is why we in the NRM have always emphasized wealth creation alongside development,” Museveni said.
He noted that while the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government has achieved major milestones in service delivery, many families have not yet benefited economically. He urged residents to embrace government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and small-scale farming to boost incomes and reduce poverty.
The President encouraged farmers to move from subsistence to commercial agriculture, citing success stories from Uganda’s cattle corridor where families have achieved financial stability through enterprise farming.
“Those who listened to my advice in the cattle corridor are now successful, with good houses, educated children, and stable incomes,” he said.
Museveni commended the people of Moyo for their steadfast support to the NRM government, describing them as “long-standing comrades in the struggle for peace and prosperity.”
Following the rally, the President announced a two-day break from his campaign trail to attend to other state duties. He will resume his regional campaign on Monday, concluding his West Nile engagements with a rally in Adjumani before proceeding to the Acholi sub-region, starting with Amuru District.
