Uganda People’s Defence Forces troops serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia have been praised for their discipline and operational readiness during operations in the Barawe sub-sector.
The commendation was delivered by the Commander of Battle Group 45, Colonel Justus Musenene, during an inspection tour of Forward Operating Bases in the area, where he assessed combat preparedness, troop welfare, and the overall operational posture of the soldiers.
Colonel Musenene applauded the troops for their resilience, professionalism, and commitment to duty, urging them to maintain unity, cooperation, and comradeship throughout the remainder of their deployment. He emphasized that discipline and teamwork remain critical to the success of the mission.
He also highlighted the importance of personal health, encouraging the soldiers to adopt healthy lifestyles to sustain long and effective service in the forces.
“Keep healthy if you want to serve in the forces for long,” Col Musenene said.
The soldiers described the commander’s visit as a significant morale booster, saying it strengthened their resolve to protect civilians and support ongoing stabilization efforts in Somalia.
The inspection covered the Forward Operating Bases at Runway, Seaport, and Barawe Knoll. Colonel Musenene was accompanied by the Commanding Officer of the 145 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Geoffrey Ochan, along with other senior and junior UPDF officers.
