Centenary Bank has partnered with Bees & Trees to boost rural livelihoods in Mbale District by equipping youth and women with tools for climate-smart farming and nature-based enterprise.
The initiative, launched in Wokukiri Village, trained farmers in coffee agroforestry, financial inclusion, and sustainable land use. As part of the support package, 30 Kenya Top Bar (KTB) beehives, 5,000 coffee seedlings, and 3,000 tree seedlings were distributed to youth and women’s groups.
Due to overwhelming interest, the project scaled up to include 80 more beehives for two additional youth groups, reflecting strong local demand for eco-friendly income-generating activities.
“By equipping youth with nature-based tools for enterprise, we’re driving financial inclusion and empowering the next generation to lead in climate action and sustainable development,” Centenary Bank stated.
The project promotes climate resilience while building entrepreneurship among rural communities, particularly youth and women who often face economic marginalization. It also aligns with Uganda’s broader agenda on green finance and sustainable development.
The partnership illustrates how collaboration between financial institutions and environmental organizations can create long-term impact through investment in people, nature, and local economies.
