Iganga Municipality Mayor Bamu Lulenzi Richard, a member of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), has applauded the central government for releasing over UGX 1.2 billion to rehabilitate key roads in the town.
The funds, totaling UGX 1,295,188,152, were released through the Ministry of Works and Transport under a programme targeting the rehabilitation of selected community access roads. The contract for the works was awarded to M/S Continuum Engineering Ltd.
Mayor Bamu described the funding as a timely and transformative intervention for the municipality.
“This is what happens when we put political differences aside and focus on what matters,” he said. “Development should never be held back by party lines.”
He emphasized that his commitment lies in delivering better services to the people of Iganga, regardless of political affiliation.
Bamu added that the roadworks will improve transportation, ease movement, and uplift the town’s general outlook.
The road rehabilitation is expected to enhance service delivery and support local economic growth in one of Eastern Uganda’s busiest towns.
