The Uganda Police has issued a stern warning to the National Unity Platform (NUP) and its supporters following what it describes as "unacceptable acts of hooliganism" during the party's campaign activities in Kawempe on Monday, which left seven security officers seriously injured.

In a statement released on November 24, 2025, security officials detailed a series of violent incidents that marred the NUP presidential candidate's rallies in Kawempe North and South.

The statement revealed that prior to the campaigns, police and the Electoral Commission had met with the NUP organizing committee and agreed upon the candidate's approved venues and routes. However, this agreement allegedly collapsed when the campaign began.

"While at the NUP headquarters, security officers were attacked with stones, an act of violence that was repeated at Bwaise Roundabout and the campaign venue," the statement read.

According to the statement, seven security officers sustained serious injuries, and several security vehicles, including an ambulance, were damaged by the rowdy crowds.

In response, security personnel stated they were forced to implement "public order measures to control the rowdy crowds." The operation led to the arrest of seven suspects believed to be connected to the violent incidents.

The statement concluded with a strong condemnation of the day's events and a clear warning for the future. "We strongly condemn the hooliganism displayed today and stress that such behaviour is unacceptable. It will be met with firm action."

This declaration signals a zero-tolerance approach from security forces as the election season intensifies, putting political parties on notice that any perceived violence will be met with an immediate and forceful response.

Veteran journalist and political commentator Andrew Mwenda observed that the campaigns have been going well although the NUP party and its members are working to reverse the situation.

“This is to inform NUP supporters to stop attacking police and UPDF soldiers. This afternoon at Bwaise Wellex hardware, NUP hooligans attacked and injured seven police officers and UPDF. These provocations will lead to very severe consequences for them and their campaign from the state. The government has made every effort to keep the campaign free of violence. Please don’t change the tone of the campaign so far,” Mr Mwenda said in a post on X.
